At Legacy Plastics, Inc., we take pride in being a single source provider for the design and manufacture of high quality molds. A customer in the tooling industry required the custom injection over-molding of hobby knives, and we were pleased to take on the project. First, our engineering and design team converted our client’s specifications into a 2D CAD drawing. We then designed a loading fixture, to reduce mold damage and kept the physical handling of razor sharp knife blades to a minimum. When completed, each unit measured 1/2″ wide by 5″ long and to tolerances of ±0.005″. Each hobby knife was visually inspected for quality and to ensure our customer’s specifications were followed. Our client was so pleased with the results that we now manufacture 180,000 of these knives annually, delivering them directly to their facility on a monthly basis.
